Hans Holbein Resource Pages Hans Holbein (The Younger) was a very well known painter at the time of Henry VIII and he painted many noblemen and noblewomen as well as portraits of the Royal Family.  In these pages we will look at the drawings and paintings that he produced. He was born around 1497 and died in 1543.  He was Dutch and travelled to England to look for work.  Because he was so good, he was quickly asked to draw and paint the richest and most powerful people in the country at the time.  He became court painter to Henry VIII around 1535. This is a portrait of Hans Holbein, almost certainly painted by the artist himself
