Hans Holbein Resource Pages
Hans Holbein (The Younger) was a very well known painter at the time of
Henry VIII and he painted many noblemen and noblewomen as well as
portraits of the Royal Family. In these pages we will look at the drawings
and paintings that he produced.
He was born around 1497 and died in 1543. He was Dutch and travelled to
England to look for work. Because he was so good, he was quickly asked to
draw and paint the richest and most powerful people in the country at the
time. He became court painter to Henry VIII around 1535.
