There
used to be a weir and a Mill on the river.
The Mill existed in the Domesday records.
The last Mill was built in 1745.
The
weir got washed away by heavy floods in the winter of 1922. However it
was
rebuilt in 1926. The weir kept the water
at a high level, so there used to be a little steamer boat that went
along the
river between Bidford and Cleeve Prior. After
the weir was washed away it could not
run any longer. It had gone completely by
1946.
The
old Mill stopped grinding corn and became a tea room during the Second
World War.
There was more flooding and the mill was used for the final time in
1946 when
it was demolished by Mr Wylie.
