| What was Evacuation and why did it happen? When war began, the government was
sure that the Germans would bomb the big cities ans they wanted protect
as many people as they could, especially children. They organised
evacuation of these people to areas away from cities. sometimes a long
way away.
|
Who was evacuated and where did they go? The main people to be evacuated
were children under the age of 14, but some mothers with young children
also were evacuated as it is very hard to look after babies or toddlers
if you are not the mother. They mainly went to the countryside,
so that children from Birmingham went to Worcestershire and
Warwickshire, for example.
|
What was it
like to be evacuated?
Children had very different
experiences when they were evacuated, Some went to kind families,
but others found it very difficult and were treated very badly.
