The Qur'an is written in Arabic and every true Muslim will, learn to read Arabic.  Muslims believe that the Qur'an is only genuine when it is read in Arabic.  Any translation is called a "meaning" of the Qur'an, not a true copy of the sacred book.  Here is some information about how to write Arabic, which many consider a very beautiful script.

letters

  • The Arabic alphabet contains 28 letters. Some extra letters are used in Arabic when writing place-names or foreign words containing sounds which do not occur in Standard Arabic.
  • Words are written  from right to left, numerals are written from left to right
  • Most letters are written differently depending on whether they appear at the beginning, middle or end of a word, or on their own. 
  • Letters that can be joined are always joined in both hand-written and printed Arabic.
